Lauhala Love is a warm, welcoming community dedicated to sharing the joy and craft of lauhala weaving in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. We often collaborate with other cultural practitioners to highlight and perpetuate our Hawaiian cultural practices.
About Me
I’m Naomi Nascimento, a dedicated lauhala weaver who began cultivating my relationship with the plant six years ago under the patient instruction and guidance of Master Weaver Mariko Kobayashi. As an honored member of Ulana me ka Lokomaika’i, my practice extends beyond technique into a deep, reciprocal spiritual connection with lauhala. I have learned to harvest and carefully process my own leaves to create pāpale, and I consistently approach the plant with respect, mindfulness, and gentle care.
Recognizing that many people wish to experience lauhala casually but often struggle to find teachers, I now host short, in-person workshops where participants can make a small piece to take home while learning the basic techniques. Through these sessions, I aim to help preserve the craft and make the tradition more accessible and welcoming to newcomers.
